Biometrician 1/2/3 (PCN 114119); location:
Fairbanks, Anchorage, or Juneau, Alaska.
Effective July 1, 2026: wage increase of 3% reflected in posting.
Responsibilities- Develop study designs and determine appropriate sample sizes and expected precision for research projects.
- Analyze data using classical and Bayesian statistical methods.
- Co‑author operational plans and reports.
- Provide biometric support and consultation to regional fisheries managers and research leaders.
- Collaborate with staff across the Division of Sport Fish, Division of Commercial Fisheries, and Division of Wildlife Conservation.
- Assist with data collection and travel to field research sites as needed.
- Graduate degree in statistics, biometrics, or a biological science with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter hours of graduate‑level statistics/biometrics coursework.
- Broad knowledge of quantitative biological research, including experimental design, variance estimation, regression, spatial and time‑series analysis, multivariate, non-parametric, generalized linear, mixed‑effects, hierarchical models, mark‑recapture, and Bayesian techniques.
- Proficiency in statistical software: R, JAGS/WinBUGS, SAS, Program Mark; spatial data programs including ArcGIS and Arc Map.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present data clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Position may involve use of firearms/ammunition; candidates with a misdemeanor domestic‑violence conviction are ineligible.
- Flexible staffing as Biometrician 1, 2, or 3 based on qualifications and experience; promotion opportunities available.
- Choice of work location (Anchorage, Fairbanks, or Juneau).
- Collaborative office environment with opportunities for travel to field sites.
