DescriptionAt SMS Equipment, the Underground Mining Business Development Representative is the primary commercial point of contact for hard rock underground mining customers. The incumbent is responsible for driving sales of underground mining equipment and supporting after‑sales product support activities through specialized technical expertise, product applications, and integration with the customer’s operations.
Work Location: Anchorage, AK
Salary: $75,000 annually plus commission, with a first‑year earnings guarantee of $100,000 (base salary + guaranteed commission).
What You’ll Do- Identify sales opportunities and manage new equipment sales by establishing sales targets and action plans aligned with economic trends and product innovations. Develop sales forecasts, budgets, and prospect reports. Prepare compelling sales presentations, contracts, and proposals, including proactive equipment replacement solutions.
- Support product after‑sales activities as the primary point of contact for customer products and services. Provide parts and service proposals, act as a technical resource, and ensure clear communication of performance standards. Understand equipment component life cycles to make proactive recommendations, present new technologies, and assist with systems such as Kom Trax and VHMS.
- Provide on‑site customer support by liaising between branch operations and customer workflows. Identify and resolve service gaps, engage in day‑to‑day operations to understand future needs, and align SMS Equipment service offerings accordingly. Lead strategic and operational meetings to ensure seamless collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Build and strengthen customer relationships by developing and implementing sales initiatives to maintain and grow relationships with existing and prospective customers. Maintain consistent communication, address operational challenges, and gather feedback to improve services and offerings.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to meet personal and team sales targets and have knowledge of equipment life‑cycle management and proactive maintenance strategies for underground mining equipment. Additional qualifications include:
- Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to maintain accurate customer data
- Ability to prepare detailed proposals, budgets, and sales forecasts
- Expertise in the sales process, including creating presentations, contracts, and proposals
- Ability to build strong, long‑term relationships with customers at various organizational levels
- Experience using structured sales approaches, such as the IMPACT sales process
- Ability to identify gaps in customer workflows and propose actionable solutions
- Analytical mindset to align customer needs with business objectives
- Excellent communication skills to liaise between customers and internal teams
- Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences
- Team‑oriented approach to collaborate with branch operations, management, and other departments
- Proactive approach to identifying efficiency and improvement opportunities
- Ability to foster high levels of customer satisfaction through effective relationship building
