The Environmental Scientist I supports contaminated site investigations, remediation projects, and environmental compliance work for AERS clients across Alaska. This is a field-forward role for an early-career scientist or geologist who wants to develop strong technical and field capabilities and progress toward Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) status under Alaska DEC contaminated sites requirements. The position works alongside senior scientists and geologists to collect and manage environmental data, prepare technical deliverables, and learn how investigation and remediation projects are planned and executed.

Depending on project needs, the position may also support wetlands, fisheries, biological, cultural resources, or other environmental work in collaboration with other AES teams.

• Location:
  
  Anchorage, Alaska. Office-based, with field assignments statewide.
• Schedule:
  
  Field assignments are typically two to three weeks. Longer deployments may occasionally be required depending on project scope and remoteness of the field location.
• Field season:
  Field work is concentrated in the summer and fall, with data management, technical deliverable preparation, project planning, and training through the winter.

• Support, and with experience lead, field activities including soil and groundwater sampling, monitoring well installation and development, test pit and excavation oversight, and confirmation sampling.
• Record accurate field documentation, including boring logs, well logs, field forms, chain-of-custody records, and photo documentation.
• Compile, review, and tabulate analytical data and compare results against applicable cleanup levels under 18 AAC 75 and 18 AAC 78.
• Draft sections of work plans, site characterization reports, cleanup reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory correspondence for senior review.
• Prepare figures, tables, and site maps supporting technical deliverables.
• Support management of investigation-derived waste, including container labeling, staging, tracking, characterization documentation, and disposal records.
• Assist with field mobilization and demobilization, equipment preparation and calibration, sample shipping, and logistics for remote sites.
• Work safely across a range of settings, from active industrial facilities and construction sites to remote locations accessible only by air or barge, including camp-based operations.
• Support project managers with schedule tracking, subcontractor coordination, cost documentation, and other project controls.
• Progress toward QEP qualification under 18 AAC 75.333(b) through structured mentorship, qualifying field assignments, technical writing, and increasing project responsibility.

• Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, geology, environmental engineering, chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
• Zero to three years of relevant environmental field, consulting, or remediation experience. Recent graduates with relevant internship or field experience are encouraged to apply.
