Job Description
The Security Officer provides services for a variety of large and small business clients where health, safety, and security is our #1 priority. This is a public environment at the Anchorage Museum and surrounding areas with the corresponding levels of traffic (employees, visitors, customers, etc.).
Responsibilities- Personally monitors assigned areas or grounds visually, electronically or audibly, including roving inside facilities, in a vehicle and other appropriate locations.
- Ensures own actions and those of others observe maximum level of safety and compliance.
- Verbally de‑escales situations to ensure the safety of employees, customers, and clients.
- Examines doors, windows and other area for security.
- Reports and records data such as property damage and unusual occurrences in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Assists in setting up for events, moving furniture and displays and preparing the Museum for various functions.
- Warns violators of rule infractions and may apprehend or expel violators.
- Notifies on‑site individuals of visitors wishing to see them.
- Assists in properly responding to emergencies or disasters to preserve life and property, including fire safety and active shooter protocol.
- May perform routine input or monitoring of safety and life support computer programs.

- May check heating, lighting, sprinkling, security, ventilation, fire and other systems for operation.
- May also be combined with other position duties.
- Notifies supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
- The position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Other duties pertinent to the department or unit's success may be assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least two (2) years of security, law enforcement or military experience.
- Must pass the State of Alaska background check and obtain the Alaska Guard License fee of $97.00 prior to beginning work.
- Must cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers and clients.
- Must make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
- Must be on feet for 8-12 hours per shift.
- Must speak, understand, read and write English.
- Must be safety oriented for a safety‑sensitive position.
- Must adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set by the company and client.
Physical Requirements
Weather:
Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.
Noise level:
Moderate to Loud.
Environment: A public setting at the Anchorage Museum.
Must constantly stand, walk, climb, push, pull using hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch.
Must lift and move up to 50 lbs.
