Event Security Team – University Police Department

The University Police Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking applicants for its Event Security Team. We are looking for individuals who will be dedicated to increasing the overall safety environment of campus. Team members will be non-sworn and unarmed and will help to identify and locate potential risks and hazards and increase the university community sense of security and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Work is performed under direct supervision. Participate in training programs. Apply basic security officer practices and procedures under the guidance of Event Supervisor. Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills. Recordkeeping skills. Conflict resolution and organizational skills. Ability to operate computers and specialized equipment. Ability to exercise judgment under difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.

Special Conditions

This position is for campus special events and schedule is based upon the events. May be requested to assist in campus emergencies or shift coverage of campus security based upon additional security training and obtain clearances. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester and plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester.
  • At least a 2.0 cumulative GPA or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or designee.
  • Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible with approval of the senior student services officer.
  • Must possess a valid .
  • Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation directed by University of Alaska Board of Regents Policy.
  • Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law.
Position Details

This position is located on the Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. It is a part-time, temporary Student Worker position, up to 20 hours per week while school is in session. Starting hourly rate is $20.47 per hour. This recruitment is open to undergraduate students only. This is a pooled position, and applications are reviewed as needed.
