AAC Crowd Management FY

Join the dynamic team at the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC) as a Crowd Management member. Located on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage, AAC is a 196,000 square foot facility that seats up to 5,000 spectators. The facility hosts UAA Seawolves men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, concerts, comedy shows, and community events. This part‑time position is an essential part of creating memorable experiences for event attendees.

As a Crowd Management member at the Alaska Airlines Center (AAC), you will play a pivotal role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all events. Responsibilities include overseeing the smooth ingress and egress of attendees, implementing emergency response protocols, and ensuring strict adherence to venue and university policies. Your work will help create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere, contributing to the success of a wide range of events while prioritizing the safety and satisfaction of all guests.

To thrive in this role, you should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with diverse groups of people. Patience, tact, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial. The ability to utilize verbal de‑escalation techniques to resolve patron conflicts without physical intervention, along with awareness of safety protocols and emergency procedures and the ability to enforce building and university policies, will be valuable assets in ensuring a smooth and safe environment for both staff and attendees.

Be at least 21 years old (age requirement to comply with state alcohol regulations).

Active TAPS certification, or ability to obtain certification before first day of work.

Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Possess the ability to stand or walk for extended periods.

Previous experience in event security, crowd management, law enforcement, military, hospitality, guest relations, or a related field is advantageous.

Exhibit excellent observational and problem‑solving skills to identify and address potential issues.

Possess strong interpersonal communications skills with a focus in de‑escalation techniques to resolve patron conflicts without physical intervention, and the ability to remain calm and composed in high‑pressure situations and handle confrontational or challenging individuals.

Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedule.

FERPA certification or certification completed within 30 days of job start date.

Title IX certification or certification completed within 30 days of job start date.

Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or certification completed within 30 days of job start date.

Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or certification completed within 30 days of job start date.

Protecting Payment Card Information training (annual training).

This is a part‑time, non‑exempt, temporary staff position located at the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Salary Schedule, Grade 77, based on education and experience. Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedule.

Salary: $20.47
