Position: Maintenance Mechanic Leader (Roads and Grounds)

About the Position

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Center on Joint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson. As a Regular Full‑Time employee, you have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 35 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. You are eligible for the following:

Duties

Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all equipment to make sure they are in good mechanical and safe operating condition. Performs routine inspection and minor maintenance on all vehicles assigned to Outdoor Recreation. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Utilizes hand and power tools such as but not limited to: drills, power saws, routers, standard hand tools, masonry, electrical tools, straight edge, chalk line, tapes, rules, caulking items, pipe wrenches, rollers, putty knife, etc.

Must maintain all current certification required to complete all assigned tasks (e.g., HAZMAT, Safety, Motor Vehicle Operating, etc). Drives/operates vehicles/equipment weighing up and over 10,000 pounds at various locations both on and off base. Regularly leads and directs 3 or more to accomplish daily and weekly work and enforce the standards of daily work. Leads an NA-10 level employee during the winter season.

Ensures all plans, blueprints, materials, tools, and stock are available and ready for the workday and projects. Maintains an industry standard of knowledge and is able to answer the questions of other workers on procedures, instructions, directives, and orders. Checks work while in progress and when finished to verify that the supervisor's instructions and deadlines have been met. Answers all questions from supervisors on work operations, status, problems, progress of work, and work delays.

Ensures that all safety rules and standards are adhered to at all times. Operates field‑type tractors with attachments to maintain the grass and brush in all areas. Operates snow removal and grooming equipment to include snow maker. May obtain a Government Purchase Card. Leads groups through projects and advises the Roads and Grounds Supervisor. Leads the groups through daily activities and tasks.

Performs area maintenance, including maintaining load and unload ramps around lift stations. Performs snow removal and raking as needed around equipment and other resort areas to ensure operational goals are met. Conducts regular maintenance on all winter equipment. Operates high‑voltage equipment and high‑pressure air/water systems using appropriate safety precautions. Inspects trails, snow‑making equipment, and pipes regularly. Performs other related duties.

Requirements
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a pre‑employment physical.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to provide current Driving Record.
  • The incumbent must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement.
  • This position requires the incumbent to satisfactorily complete a pre‑employment drug test. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
