Position: Laborer (Golf Course Groundskeeper).

Responsibilities

The incumbent performs significant labor involved with golf course grounds maintenance. Operates heavy, complex riding lawn mowers and other specialized mowing equipment, including multiple and independently controlled cutting decks, single function components, and specially designed riding mowers for slopes. Operates various controls and levers to maneuver equipment and lift, lower, adjust, engage, and disengage components or attached devices when working around trees, greens, aprons, tees, fence lines, banks and hillsides, cart paths, sand bunkers, tee markers, cups on greens, trenches, slopes, curbs, rocks and other visible obstacles.

Determines and selects the most appropriate type of equipment to accomplish each phase of the work in the most productive and cost‑effective manner.

Completes all aspects of special assignments involving several steps, phases or detailed procedures (e.g., preparing ground, laying sod, planting flowers or shrubs and using simple drawings to establish a planting pattern and/or design). The laborer installs forms and lays walks and paths using gravel and asphalt mixes; excavates and backfills ditches and trenches with hand tools; repairs and replaces pipe on irrigation systems;

and may operate mowers, dump trucks or other equipment.

Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Conditions of Employment
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position has a physical lifting requirement; the incumbent must complete a favorable pre‑employment physical.
  • The duties of this position require a valid state Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • The incumbent must provide a current Driving Record.
  • The incumbent must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • U.S. Citizens and Non‑U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for at least three (3) consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.
Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet the experience requirements described below and demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to operate large, complex riding mowers and similar specialized mowing equipment.
  • Practical knowledge of golf activities and equipment is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using, controlling, and cleaning common hand tools and simple power equipment.

    Ability to independently complete assignments involving several steps, phases, or procedures, and to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Strong reading, writing, and speaking ability in English.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Experience

In order to qualify, you must have paid, unpaid, or volunteer experience with golf course maintenance or related activities (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps, community or religious organizations). Resume must clearly describe relevant experience.

Education

Education does not substitute for required experience in this position. Foreign education may be accepted if credentials are demonstrably equivalent to conventional U.S. education.
