Overview
Leads and assists in the construction, installation, and maintenance of communications towers, support structures, and related telecommunications equipment. Promotes timely job completion and sets an example for crew performance. Tower Technicians work irregular hours, travel frequently, and operate at great heights under extreme weather conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Climbs and works on communication towers to install, replace, and repair antenna system equipment.
- Uses and cares for hand tools, mechanical equipment, and specialized tower rigging techniques.
- Ensures crew compliance with company and customer safety requirements, verifies tool and rigging gear safety, and completes required daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s).
- Understands hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, energized lines, and related equipment.
- Climbs tall structures (100 feet or more) carrying a 50‑lb load.
- Develops and writes detailed Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for projects.
- Analyzes situations accurately and adopts appropriate courses of action, maintaining clear communication orally and in writing.
- Recognizes safety hazards, performs duties safely, and maintains a clean, orderly work environment in accordance with OSHA and industry standards.
- Performs tape drops, sweep tests, PIM, fiber testing, GPS antenna alignment (Sun Sight AAT), and antenna installation (RRH, ground kits, RET systems).
- Troubleshoots RET systems, runs necessary lines to the tower, grounds coaxial lines, and builds connectors of various sizes and types.
- Stacks towers, installs sector mounts, and applies basic knowledge of microwave dish and radio installations.
- Leads 4‑MANT tower crews safely within established budget requirements and ensures jobs meet company and customer quality standards and COP requirements.
- Runs winch/cat heads, troubleshoots GPS antennas, tower lighting systems, TMA gaintesting, RF noise floor testing, and acts as a mentor for less experienced tower technicians.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
- Good computer skills; self‑motivated and able to learn quickly.
- Ability to lift over 70 pounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent; 3‑4 years of industry experience.
- Excellent communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking in English).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Clean driving record, valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must be able to accommodate out‑of‑town travel, if required.
- Operating experience with Anritsu Site Master, Andrew, PPC, tower mapping, and antenna equipment.
- Experience stacking self‑support towers, installing waveguide, antennas, and microwave dishes; RF awareness, replacement, and maintenance of coax, jumpers, TMA’s, connectors, and weatherproofing.
- Highly organized with effective verbal and written reporting skills to the Tower Foreman.
- Training:
Com Train, OSHA 10, RFA Awareness, First Aid/CPR trained.
- Regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and speak or listen.
- Required to walk most of the time; occasionally required to sit.
- Works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; outside weather conditions including wet, humid, extreme heat, electricity shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold.
- Noisy but usually moderate.
$34.0 – $37.0 Hourly Wage
