Facilities Technician – Clay County Sheriff’s Office

Job Summary: Under direct supervision, responsible for the sheriff’s office buildings and grounds. Incumbents must work under a Tech II at an apprentice level to gain skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, landscaping, automated controls and basic audio‑visual networks to build, maintain, repair, and construct within CCSO facilities. This position will be on standby for 10‑100 incidents, respond to emergencies, and serve as essential personnel during major storms and hurricanes.

This is an entry‑level position; training will be provided. After one year as a Tech I and meeting qualifications, incumbents may transfer to Tech II.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct routine facility maintenance and safety inspections, documenting and prioritizing issues based on agency policies, manufacturer recommendations, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Identify and report maintenance, safety, and compliance concerns, ensuring timely resolution by coordinating with appropriate personnel or departments.
  • Maintain and repair security equipment such as locks, cameras, and gates to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance.
  • Perform maintenance tasks, such as replacing light fixtures, painting, drywall installation, and furniture repair, adhering to safety standards and minimizing operational disruption.
  • Maintain outdoor sprinkler systems and perform small engine repairs on equipment like chainsaws, blowers, and portable generators.
  • Ensure agency grounds are clean, safe, and professionally maintained, especially during routine operations, hurricane preparation, and clean‑up activities.
  • Move, transport, and discard furniture and equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring proper handling and delivery.
  • Escort vendors and contractors performing work on agency property, ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
  • Complete custodial duties as needed to maintain clean and safe facilities in accordance with FMJS requirements.
  • Maintain accurate daily activity logs, detailing work performed, materials used, and time spent on each task.
  • Process incoming and outgoing documents in a timely manner, following supervisory direction and agency procedures.
  • Adhere to preventative maintenance schedules and update supervisors on noteworthy issues or incidents.
  • Actively participate in job‑specific training and complete required certifications, utilizing both online and in‑person learning platforms.
  • Remain on‑site during natural disasters, severe weather, and emergencies, ensuring the safety and functionality of the facility.
  • Prioritize maintenance requests based on urgency and safety concerns to meet agency and legal obligations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and ethical behavior in all interactions with the public, colleagues, and agency staff.
  • Respect cultural, religious, and gender differences when engaging with coworkers and the public.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues and participate in cross‑training to enhance teamwork and operational efficiency.
  • Respond to supervision and feedback in a receptive manner, following agency policies and demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Regularly check and respond to communications via mailbox, phone, and email in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Adhere to attendance and leave policies, ensuring punctuality and timely submission of timesheets, leave requests, and other required documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and in alignment with agency standards.
Licenses, Education, and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience in general building maintenance required; education and certifications in job‑relevant specialties (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, locks, welding, or carpentry) may substitute for experience.
Pay

Base pay range: $42,993.60 per year – $49,836.80 per year.
