Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) is a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.
Day to Day ResponsibilitiesAs a new Maintenance Tech
- Diesel Mechanic, you will work hands‑on with diesel-powered equipment, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure optimal functionality. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities include performing inspections, servicing equipment, diagnosing issues, and completing repairs efficiently and effectively. You will collaborate with team members to prioritize tasks, adhere to safety protocols, and maintain accurate maintenance records. The position requires a commitment to working 10‑hour days, 6 days a week, to meet the demands of maintaining critical equipment in remote Alaskan villages.
To excel as a Maintenance Tech
- Diesel Mechanic, candidates should possess technical proficiency in construction, electrical systems, and maintenance. Experience in diesel generation systems or similar technical fields is essential. Candidates must adapt to changing tasks and environments in remote locations, be self‑motivated, and maintain a responsible work ethic for field operations.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety protocols. Proficiency in utilizing various tools and software related to equipment maintenance and repair is a must.
Knowledge And Skills- Technical proficiency in construction, electrical systems, and maintenance.
- Experience in diesel generation systems or similar technical fields.
