Description
Position Purpose – As a LONG Security Service Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various security systems, including access control, video surveillance, and intrusion alarm systems in commercial, industrial, government, and corrections environments. This role involves working independently on routine service tasks and collaborating with project teams on more complex assignments. You will provide excellent customer service, ensuring that systems are operating efficiently and effectively while addressing any technical concerns that arise.
You will also mentor, coach, and guide junior service technicians in a team environment.
Note:
This is a unionized position that will require joining or maintaining membership in the local chapter of the IBEW Union.
Compensation Range – $28 - $48 per hr, depending on current local union rates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Complete daily Time & Materials (T&M) work orders, leveraging industry expertise to troubleshoot system issues and implement solutions that meet both client satisfaction and LONG Standards.
- Accurately document completed work and submit time entries daily through the relevant software.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections of systems, including tasks such as cleaning, replacing parts, updating software, and optimizing systems to prevent failures. Inspect for physical damage, wear, and signs of degradation.
- Communicate effectively with customers, addressing inquiries, providing technical guidance, and resolving issues.
- Educate system users on proper operation and maintenance of products and systems.
- Advise customers on necessary replacements or critical repairs for maintaining equipment functionality.
- Troubleshoot IP networks to ensure ongoing system performance.
- Proficient in installing and servicing electronic door hardware.
- Assist in developing quotes, including time and materials estimates, for small projects or system upgrades.
- Provide input for updating drawings and maintaining equipment records, including submitting redlined documents to application engineers for as‑built documentation.
- On‑call work may be required on an as‑needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in field operations, including troubleshooting.
- Ability to legally operate a company vehicle.
- Proficient in access control systems, video surveillance, alarm systems, low‑voltage wiring, and construction processes.
- Strong aptitude for computers and/or mechanical equipment, with a self‑motivated drive to learn and expand knowledge across various systems.
- Excellent analytical skills for resolving software and system integration issues.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and specifications.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks independently, with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
- Strong customer service orientation combined with analytical problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- Associate degree in computer/electronic technical and 1 year of experience in security system installation and maintenance, or 3‑5 years of experience in security system installation and maintenance.
- Relevant certifications in security systems (e.g., NICET, BICSI) preferred.
- Knowledge of LONG's operations, procedures, and infrastructure, as it pertains to construction operations.
