Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Summary
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
DEPARTMENT:
Maintenance & Operations
HOURS OF WORK:
Monday - Thursday or Tuesday
-Friday, 7:00am - 5:30pm
LOCATION:
4551 Fairbanks Street
- Services and maintains a variety of vehicles and equipment (oil changes, fluid level checks, lubrication of moving parts, checking batteries).
- Assists mechanics in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and other equipment.
- Cleans and maintains shop work areas including removal of snow and debris.
- Properly disposes of discarded oil and other servicing related materials.
- Dismounts, repairs, performs mounting, balancing and removing/replacing of tires at various locations.
- Maintains a harmonious work environment.
- Assists in shop cleanup, moving vehicles to/from the shop.
- Utilizes the equipment maintenance management software to document work performed.
- Must provide own standard tools of the trade.
- Performs other duties assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent AND completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent AND one (1) year of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.
- Satisfactory background check including criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
- A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory full driving record at time of hire.
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Exemptions and Preferences- Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans who wish to be considered must attach DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Must show honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. Minimum qualifications must be met for preference consideration. - Individuals currently serving in the National Guard or organized military reserves must attach proof of current service. Minimum qualifications must be met for preference consideration.
