Position: DAC Maintenance Tech (I / II)

Overview

The DAC Maintenance Technician II performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair, and operational support across DAC facilities, buildings, grounds, mechanical systems, and airfield support equipment. This role requires strong technical aptitude, the ability to work independently, and readiness to support aircraft operations in a remote Arctic environment. Responsibilities include heavy equipment operation, general construction tasks, utility system maintenance, and daily support of airport and facility operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Facility & Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance on facility equipment and systems.
  • Inspect and maintain electrical, plumbing, fire pumps, HVAC, boilers, heating systems, wastewater systems, jetways, and related equipment.
  • Diagnose issues, repair or replace components, and document work performed using company maintenance software.
  • Respond to emergency or priority maintenance requests promptly to minimize operational downtime.
  • Maintain hangar spaces including sweeping, surface cleaning, and equipment organization.
  • Conduct exterior custodial duties such as snow removal, sanding, and ice management as required.
Operations & Airfield Support
  • Support aircraft arrivals, departures, marshaling, towing, and ground handling activities as needed.
  • Operate heavy equipment including loader, sweeper, tug, forklift, scissor-lift, and other machinery.
  • Prepare, load, and offload cargo, materials, and shipments.
  • Assist with jetway movement, servicing, pre-heating equipment, and other aircraft support systems.
Construction & Project Work
  • Execute small construction or repair projects with minimal supervision.
  • Perform carpentry, framing, plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC installation/repair, insulation, drywall, painting, roofing, siding, and concrete work as required.
  • Contribute to new facility build-outs, renovations, and upgrades.
General Responsibilities
  • Follow all corporate policies, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and actively participate in safety programs.
  • Develop working knowledge of building systems, utility infrastructure, and specialized equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, leadership, and external stakeholders.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Strong commitment to safety and the ability to perform tasks safely in remote Arctic conditions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment.
  • Skilled in operation of heavy equipment or the ability to become proficient quickly.
  • Ability to interpret written and verbal instructions and follow established procedures.
  • Competent computer skills for documenting maintenance tasks and communicating operational updates.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and use judgment to accomplish daily goals.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs routinely; occasional lifting up to 75 lbs may be required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, work overhead, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Must be capable of operating heavy equipment, machinery, and tools safely for prolonged durations.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on elevated platforms, and in and around active airfield operations.
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform technical tasks, inspections, and equipment operation.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall‑protection harnesses, and cold‑weather survival gear.
  • Ability to work long shifts (12 hours) in a rotational schedule, including occasional night work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school certification required.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Three to five years of experience in maintenance, construction, airport operations, or FBO support.
  • Forklift, Front-End Loader, or Tug certification preferred (or ability to obtain within one month of hire).
  • Current Alaska Driver’s License required; CDL preferred but not required.
