Position: Juvenile Justice Counselor 1/2 (PCN 063505)

Job Overview

Juvenile Justice Counselor (Levels 1 and
2) – Anchorage, Alaska – McLaughlin Youth Center, Boys Treatment Unit (Intensive Substance Abuse Program).

Responsibilities
  • Provide therapeutic and restorative justice programs to juvenile offenders, focusing on substance abuse treatment.
  • Support youth development through life‑skills instruction, anger management, and drug‑alcohol education.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment in a 24‑hour facility.

Minimum Qualifications – Level 1
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Age 20 or older.
Minimum Qualifications – Level 2
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of paid or volunteer experience teaching or coaching group activities for youth.
  • OR six months of experience as a Juvenile Justice Counselor 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent.
  • OR six months of experience in adult/juvenile corrections, law‑enforcement, parole, probation, residential treatment casework or social casework.
  • Must be age 20 or older.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Background investigation, criminal record check and medical examination required.

Working Environment

Field work in a boy’s treatment unit inside a 24‑hour secure facility with shift work, holidays, weekends and occasional overtime.
