Juvenile Probation Officer

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.

The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill multiple Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 positions located in the Anchorage Juvenile Probation office on the campus of the McLaughlin Youth Center.

What you will be doing

The Juvenile Probation Officer is responsible for monitoring, motivating, and supervising a caseload of both formal case and informal case juvenile offenders to address accountability, facilitate community restoration, and develop the skills necessary to lead productive and crime free lives as adults. The services provided to youth are individualized and focused on their rehabilitation, building upon their strengths. This position will screen and process juvenile criminal referrals from the early pre-court services through the court process, with supervision and case management.

The position will facilitate communication and service delivery with parties to include: the youth, their family, attorneys, the court, service providers, and victims of juvenile offenses. The position will develop case plans after coordination with multiple community agencies and treatment programs to provide trauma informed services for delinquent youth, their families, and victims. The position frequently represents the department in formal court environments and produces petitions, reports, documents, and reports to the court most often under inflexible timelines.

Our organization, mission, and culture

Through Restorative Justice, we hold juvenile offenders accountable for their behavior; promote the safety and restoration of victims and communities; and assist offenders and their families in developing the skills to prevent crime. Our core values include:

  • Prioritizing Safety – of our youth, staff, families, and communities
  • Responsiveness – providing timely response to youth, families, victims, staff, and justice partners.
  • Professional Relationships – recognizing that successful treatment services provided to our clients, coworkers, victims, and others rely on positive, respectful, and collaborative relationships and a spirit of inclusiveness.
  • Dedication – doing the right things for the right reasons and modeling relentless integrity and leadership.
  • Respect – for the inherent value of each person's unique strengths and individual differences.

The benefits of joining our team

Join a dynamic, fast-paced team in the largest juvenile probation office in Alaska. Our team is committed to making a meaningful difference in youths' lives using cutting-edge, evidence-based, and trauma informed practices. Our staff work closely with the courts to hold youth accountable, victims of juvenile offenses to repair the harm caused, and with youths' families and the broader community to monitor youth and create an environment where youth can thrive.

We take pride in working closely with the local entities including law enforcement, the court, attorneys, the school district, and many residential- and community-based treatment providers. We believe in enhancing the strengths of our staff by promoting training and professional development. Take advantage of a unique opportunity to learn and grow professionally while serving Alaska's youth and families and making our communities better.
