Assistive Technology of Alaska (ATLA) is seeking an innovative, compassionate, and technology-minded Assistive Technology Specialist to help Alaskans with disabilities live, work, learn, and participate more independently. The Assistive (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). works collaboratively with ATLA staff to provide demonstrations, assessments, training, technical assistance, and individualized recommendations for assistive technology solutions. This position supports individuals of all ages and disabilities by helping them identify technology that improves independence, communication, education, employment, and community participation. The AT Specialist also assists with implementing state and federally funded grants, develops and delivers educational programs, participates in outreach activities, and provides both direct and indirect services throughout Alaska.
EssentialDuties Assistive Technology Specialist
- Conduct assistive technology demonstrations for individuals, families, professionals, and community organizations.
- Complete individualized assessments and recommend appropriate assistive technology solutions.
- Deliver one‑on‑one training and group workshops both in person and virtually.
- Research emerging assistive technology products and identify solutions based on individual needs and goals.
- Assist consumers in obtaining assistive technology through feature matching, funding resources, and equipment acquisition.
- Develop educational materials and presentations for community outreach.
- Represent ATLA through participation in statewide and national meetings, conferences, and committees.
- Maintain timely documentation, reports, and grant‑related data.
- Comply with applicable ATLA policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate a passion for the mission by believing in the abilities of people with disabilities. Treat customers, families, and others with respect and ensure the confidentiality of client records.
- Participate in special projects for mission‑related investments, grant capacity‑building, and other activities.
- Work collaboratively with and maintain productive, good working relationships with ATLA staff, the community, and other Alaska organizations.
- Demonstrate excellent people, problem‑solving, organizational, and time management skills. Self‑directed – ability to complete projects and jobs with minimal supervision, including a willingness to take a hands‑on role when necessary.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested with a positive attitude.
This position has regular responsibility for interaction and communication with a broad range of people, both in individual and group meetings. Contacts may be with the general public, or with other agencies, volunteers, or similar organizations. The position requires frequent customer interaction, and communications regularly contain confidential/sensitive information, necessitating discretion.
InitiativeThe position functions with some supervision on new or unusual assignments and with only limited supervision for regular work. Work regularly calls for decision‑making, problem‑solving, and recommendations within the scope of position responsibilities.
Accountability, Responsibility, and DependabilitySubstantial planning requirements and goal‑setting skills are required. The position is responsible for independently developing and implementing plans associated with a specific assignment. The decisions made by this position have a broad/far‑reaching impact on the organization, particularly in the implementation of approved programs and services.
Minimum Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech‑Language Pathology, Human Services, Education, Assistive Technology, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may also be considered.
