For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

The duration of this position is 2080 hours.

The Alaska Region GIS Team supports the National Park Service mission by maintaining regional geospatial datasets, developing productivity tools, and enabling spatial decision‑making across Alaskan park units.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, GIS, or related field with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s) in Developing geospatial tools; proficiency in Python and C#; experience with ArcGIS Pro SDKs, geodatabases, and metadata standards.

  • Strong GIS knowledge; ability to design and develop software solutions; strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams

Duties:

The enrollee will modernize and update custom-built GIS tools, with a primary focus on the NPS Theme Manager application. Esri software updates and the migration to cloud-based data storage require redevelopment to ensure long-term sustainability, improved usability, and alignment with current geospatial technologies.

  • Redevelop and modernize the NPS Theme Manager application to ensure compatibility with ArcGIS Pro, cloud-based storage, and current code libraries.

  • Resolve legacy technical issues, update outdated components, and improve stability and performance.

  • Align the application with current regional geospatial data standards, metadata practices, and infrastructure direction.

  • Collaborate closely with the Alaska Region GIS Team to gather requirements, test functionality, and refine software design.

  • Create and maintain documentation including design artifacts, developer notes, user instructions, and maintenance guidance.
