Job Summary
Box Truck Driver/Material Handlers are responsible for efficiently and safely loading and unloading trucks and trailers at the warehouse using pallet jacks and forklifts. Once complete, they accurately sort, stock, process, or dispose of the product or material, helping maintain the organization of the warehouse. This includes donated goods, recycled materials, salvage materials, garbage, and hazardous materials. The position requires forklift certification and safe operation, regular cleaning, and maintenance of the forklift.
Adherence to Goodwill Industries of Lane and South Coast Counties rules, policies and safety procedures is mandatory.
- Efficiently and safely load and unload trucks and trailers at the warehouse using pallet jacks and forklifts.
- Become forklift certified through Goodwill training.
- Complete cleaning tasks as assigned; help maintain the warehouses as safe, clean workplaces.
- Accurately sort salvage materials into assigned containers.
- Safely and correctly operate the cardboard and trash compactors.
- Safely and correctly operate the textile baler.
- Drive trucks to stores, ADCs, donation bins, warehouses, and house calls as needed, obeying all traffic laws and following security procedures to protect Goodwill vehicles and property.
- Assist in loading and unloading of trailers and trucks at each location; inspect and verify that each load is secure prior to transport.
- Maintain accurate pick‑up/delivery records, logs, inspection reports, and incident reports as assigned.
- Notify immediate supervisor of any problems or unusual situations, including accidents, driving citations, suspended driver license, etc.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly vehicle exterior and interior.
- Perform safety inspections at the beginning and end of each shift; notify immediate supervisor of any damage or needed maintenance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Represent the company by practicing highest‑quality customer service; treating all customers and staff respectfully.
- Offer helpful, innovative suggestions to improve processes within the department.
- Maintain a well‑groomed appearance and acceptable dress in compliance with GILSCC’s dress guidelines.
- Use correct lifting and material handling techniques.
- Ensure compliance with all GILSCC’s policies, CARF standards, and state safety and security regulations.
- Provide identification and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Pass a criminal background check and pre‑employment drug‑screening test, and subsequent drug screenings as required.
- Exercise good judgment.
- Be flexible in work assignment to accommodate changing production demands.
- Have sufficient command of the English language to communicate with customers, co‑workers, and supervisors.
- Report for scheduled work regularly and on time; notify supervisor as soon as possible regarding the need and expected duration of any absence.
- Perform essential functions of the Material Handler/Baler/Box Truck Driver’s job description with or without accommodation.
- Follow written or verbal instructions.
- Work all hours of operations and be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Read and write.
- Communicate effectively with co‑workers and customers.
- Function independently and as part of a team.
- Not present a direct threat to the safety and health of self, others or property.
- No record or disclosure of criminal conviction indicating a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Forklift experience desirable or ability to become Goodwill forklift certified.
- Less than high school education; or up to one‑month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Oregon or Alaska driver’s license and have an insurable driving record.
- Must obtain the Medical Examiner’s certification to be physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle.
