Position: Equipment Operator Journey 2 (PCN 252600) Anchorage

What you will be doing

Under general supervision, professionally operate all heavy equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of Anchorage International Airport (ANC). Examples include motor graders, loaders, dump trucks, airport snow removal machines, roller compactors, sand spreaders, backhoes, and tractor‑trailer combinations.

The candidate must operate equipment on the airfield and airport property safely and efficiently, especially during dynamic snow/ice events. Communication on company and air‑to‑ground radios is required. Daily duties include removing snow from airfield surfaces, parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks, cleaning equipment, performing emergency concrete and asphalt repair, brush and tree removal, and other labor‑intensive jobs.

As part of the Airfield Maintenance crew, the incumbent will maintain airport and roadway operations under all conditions, conduct security inspections, maintain airport lighting systems, clear vegetation overgrowth, and train for emergencies. The role demands adaptability and maintaining safety in Alaska’s extreme weather.

Special note

This position is also eligible for overtime and shift differential.

Requirements

Eligible Alaska residents only. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with tanker endorsement. A conditional hire approval requires obtaining a N‑Tanker endorsement within 120 days of hire and signing an agreement. Candidates must be eligible for an airport identification badge per TSA regulations (49 CFR 1542), including fingerprinting, criminal background check, and TSA Security Threat Assessment.

Drug and alcohol policy

All selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and cannot start work until a pre‑employment drug test is cleared. Violations are recorded in the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

Education & work experience

Education must be verified with transcripts. Foreign education may be used if deemed equivalent. Work experience must include employer’s name, job title, dates of employment, and full or part‑time status.
