Mechanic – Automotive – Advanced Journey/Lead

Professional automotive mechanic responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy‑ and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used in construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other Department of Transportation assets.

• Professionally maintain all heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other user agency vehicles.
• Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques and methods; perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems—including air and electrical—for both light and heavy‑duty equipment.

• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including design, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
• Flexibility: openness to change and new information, rapid adaptation to changing conditions or obstacles.
• Vehicle maintenance knowledge of motor‑vehicle engines, parts and systems, including design, uses, repair and maintenance.
• Self‑management skills: setting realistic goals, initiative, effort, commitment to timely completion of assignments, minimal supervision, motivation and responsible behavior.

Position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the State of Alaska; the license must be obtained within 120 days of hire and the applicant must sign an agreement to this effect.

Location:

MP 135 Denali Highway, Cantwell, AK. The role requires traveling by small plane to remote locations; travel may involve day trips and overnight stays.
