What You Will Be Doing

• Professionally maintain all heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles being operated in the area.
• Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods.
• Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission systems, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems (air and electrical) for light and heavy‑duty equipment.

Work location:

5420 Dr. MLK Jr. Avenue, Anchorage, AK. Traveling in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible; travel may include day trips and overnight stays.

• Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
• Flexibility: Open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance.

• Steel‑toed boots or other approved personal protection equipment required on the job to avoid injuries from dropped or falling objects.
• Schooling in engine transmission, power shift transmission, special training in brakes, suspensions, front ends, electrical troubleshooting, welding, and hydraulics are desirable.

• A copy of your Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable).

This position requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383). The appointed employee must register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety‑sensitive duties and provide consent for driver information review in accordance with 49 CFR 382. Hire approval is conditional upon obtaining a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver’s License within 120 days of hire and signing an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT & PF Drug and Alcohol Policy. Candidates cannot start work in a CDL position until management has received confirmation of a passing pre‑employment drug test. Violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

Employees must provide their own hand tools. A bi‑weekly tool allowance is paid as determined by the LTC contract.
