Bethesda House is the only nationally accredited emergency-services residential program of its kind in Alabama, serving survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. For survivors arriving at our doors, we are often the first safe place they have known in a long time — and sometimes the first anyone has offered. Accreditation is our promise that safety here is not improvised.

It is built, measured, and held to a standard.

We are seeking a Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director to carry that promise forward.

The CEO/Executive Director is the organization’s chief executive and public voice, accountable to the Board of Directors for the health of our program, our people, and our properties. This person holds the full picture: the residents in our care, the staff who serve them, the standards we are held to, and the resources that make the work possible.

The incoming Executive Director will begin with a structured training period before assuming full responsibility on January 1, 2027 — time to learn about our program, our partners, and our community before the weight of the role settles in.

• Assure safekeeping of legal and regulatory documents and records, and comply with relevant business laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
• Facilitate and monitor ongoing Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) and compliance with national accreditation standards.
• Serve as the chief advocate and spokesperson for the issues and needs of Bethesda House.
• Facilitate an annual financial review and/or audit in consultation with the Board.
• Develop an annual budget with identified funding sources, in consultation with the Board, Director, and Marketing Director, to support the needs of Bethesda House programs and properties.
• Provide leadership and training for staff and volunteers with clear, documented expectations, regular supervision, and constructive feedback that supports performance and professional growth.
• Conduct an annual review and update of policies, procedures, and the strategic plan in consultation with the Board, Director, and Marketing Director.
• Expand the vision and oversight for Bethesda House social enterprise initiatives, including our Airbnb property — Legacy House – and the Purple Lotus Management Project, ensuring these ventures advance the mission while strengthening the organization’s financial sustainability.

Someone with the administrative discipline to keep a nationally accredited program in good standing, the steadiness to lead in a crisis-responsive environment, and the conviction to speak for survivors in rooms where they are not present.

This role also calls for genuine business acumen. Bethesda House operates social enterprise ventures alongside its residential program, and the Executive Director is expected to read a financial statement with confidence, evaluate an opportunity on its merits, and grow revenue that is not dependent on any single grant cycle. We are looking for someone who understands that sound business judgment is not separate from the mission — it is what keeps the doors open for the next survivor who needs support.

Experience in nonprofit leadership, trauma-informed services, or human services administration is valued; the capacity to hold confidence, composure, and care under pressure is essential.
