Covington Electric Cooperative, Inc. – Lineman (Andalusia Service Area)

Under general supervision of the Construction Foreman, this position requires use of judgment to comply with instructions and standard procedures. The employee will perform work in connection with construction/maintenance of new distribution lines and/or services, and work with energized lines.

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: a high‑school education or equivalent and 3–5 years experience in electric distribution service/construction work, or an appropriate combination of education, training and experience. A valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class A with air/power brake certification) is required. Candidates should have general knowledge of electrical, National Electric Safety, RUS Construction, and OSHA Safety Code, hotline conversion and maintenance techniques.

They must be able to read and interpret staking sheets/work orders for constructing new services or retiring old ones; determine the amount of wire needed and load wire, poles, transformers, and other materials onto vehicles. They must be able to install and change‑out instrument transformers, T‑Brackets, install metering, bank transformers, oil circuit reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, security lights, and other distribution line equipment on both energized and de‑energized lines, for both overhead/underground, primary/secondary construction and related equipment, under direction of supervision.

Candidates must be willing to live in or relocate to the service area, work overtime, holidays, and weekends in emergency situations or as required, and participate in a special training program as requested. All applicants must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check.
