Field Service Technician
Location:
Anderson, California (US-CA-Anderson)
Requisition :
Pay Range: $22.62 per hour – $33.94 per hour
Sign‑on Bonus: $2,000 (payout terms apply)
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Travel requirement:
Approximately 50% of the time in 2‑week increments (2 weeks home, 2 weeks away)
Must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance of the Anderson, CA warehouse located at 18025 Olinda Road, Anderson, CA
Responsibilities- Assist with and perform on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintenance of telephone equipment, network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber and copper facilities, and other TDS products for new and existing customers.
- Identify the location of defective cable using various test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, or customer cable.
- Locate cable and fiber in response to customer requests or construction needs.
- Operate construction equipment and perform pole climbing as required.
- Locate, identify, and mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage.
- Maintain an orderly log of all locate requests in the exchange area.
- Perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Assist with and provide troubleshooting support techniques and corrections; respond to “trouble” dispatches.
- Assist with and provide support for enhancing and maintaining record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
- Provide excellent customer service and proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers.
- Gain working knowledge of RUS Standards and grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
- Complete all related paperwork in a timely manner (forms, timesheets, material usage, special data requests); maintain work equipment and company vehicle; stock vehicle and notify when supplies are low.
- Promote safety and accident prevention; attend safety meetings; follow safety policies, Department of Transportation requirements, and TDS Vehicle Safety Policy.
- Maintain inventory including purchasing, receiving, stocking, and tracking regulated and non‑regulated equipment and materials; provide equipment maintenance, operating instructions, and diagnostics as needed.
- Utilize MS Office Suite, Trouble/Repair/Dispatch systems, Plant Record Systems, and other TDS applications to ensure accurate facility assignment and verification; use staking sheets and cut sheets; assign facilities and update system records and maps.
Required Qualifications
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must follow TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet business needs and customers’ obligations.
Other Qualifications
- Upon hire, must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Requires availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities; occasional travel; willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Ability to maintain Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
- A+ certification and computer networking experience.
- Gain an understanding of telecommunication products and services: inside wiring/cable, internet/intranet, bonding & grounding, data & computers/transmission concepts, fiber optic transmission, static sensitive equipment, color codes, structured wiring, Video/CATV/DBS installation, inventory systems, cable locating, battery maintenance, key systems/PBX, Centrex, switch maintenance, voicemail, special circuits, fiber terminals, subscriber CXR terminals, T‑1s, ISPs, DSL, ISDN voice & data, testing & certifying loops to support data, voice, and/or video.
- Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications including databases, Trouble/Repair/Dispatch systems, Plant Record Systems, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel.
