Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment. This role involves helping implement classroom routines and activities, caring for the needs of the children, and contributing to the smooth daily operation of the classroom. In the absence of the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher may assume lead responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

* Build positive, nurturing relationships with children and their families.

* Gain a comprehensive understanding of and adhere to:

* Indiana state regulations

* Paths to Quality requirements

* Conscious Discipline practices

* Attend all required staff in-service meetings and workshops.

* Complete a minimum of 20 hours of training annually.

* Greet children and families at arrival and maintain positive interactions at dismissal.

* Engage actively with children throughout all classroom activities.

* Maintain constant awareness of classroom headcount and ensure proper supervision and ratios at all times.

* Support mealtimes:

* Set tables

* Serve food

* Model appropriate table manners

* Assist children with eating and cleanup

* Complete necessary documentation

* Assist with diapering, toileting, and hand washing routines.

* Clean and sanitize classroom surfaces, toys, and changing areas regularly.

* Carry out classroom duties and activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.

* Familiarity with classroom routines and expectations

* Strong communication skills with the Lead Teacher and team

* Observant, safety-conscious, and quick-thinking

* Friendly, flexible, and energetic demeanor

* Caring attitude toward children, families, and colleagues

Education Requirements:

* High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Physical Requirements

* Must be able to bend, kneel, and move easily throughout the day.

* Must be able to lift and carry 35-50 lbs.
