Position: Mutuel Clerk - Part Time (Harrah's Hoosier Park)

Job Description

Weekend and evening availability with flexible schedule is required. Provides excellent service to customers who place a bet in race wagering as well as the sports book operations. Ensure that all customers understand the various types of wagers, display patience with novice customers, and engage in friendly conversations with all customers. Processes all cash transactions quickly and accurately.

Responsibilities
  • Greets customers; input betting information into computer; print ticket; accepts money and gives ticket and change to customers.
  • Accurately maintains bank.
  • Verifies winning tickets.
  • Handles and solves any concerns and questions from customers.
  • Explains wagering information when needed.
  • Maintains and updates Betting Boards or Televisions for customers to view.
  • Understands pari-mutuel wagering including reading tickets sold, tote keyboard and basic racing terminology.
  • Provides customers with a list of scratches for tracks or results for races.
  • Cash/sell vouchers.
  • Meets the attendance guidelines of the job and adheres to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
  • Cash/Cancel tickets as necessary.
  • Performs the duties as assigned of a Mutuel Teller and Sports book Writer.
Qualifications
  • Sports enthusiast with an interest in horse racing and sports activities.
  • Mathematically inclined and capable of passing a math test.
  • Demonstrated ability of good handwriting skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work any day and any shift.
  • Ability to get along with co‑workers and work as a team.
  • Must present a well‑groomed appearance.
  • Diverse, fast‑paced, deadline‑driven, multi‑project coordination, prioritizing and flexing to accommodate last‑minute requests and changes.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling guest and employee conflicts.
Social Skills And Experience

Must have an outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic attitude. Must be comfortable initiating conversations and creating a fun environment with our guests.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certifications,

Licenses, Registrations

Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a gaming license from the Indiana Gaming Commission. Must qualify for obtaining and maintaining a license from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time (minimum 4‑6 hours). Must be able to maneuver throughout all areas of the property and from floor to floor either by stairways (minimum of 20 steps) or escalator. Responds to visual and aural cues. Must have the manual dexterity to operate a computer and other necessary office equipment.

Must be able to tolerate areas containing second‑hand smoke, dust, loud noises, and bright lights. Must be able to work varied shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Access To Gaming Facility

Requires access to the gaming floor.
