About

The Role

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at Life Span Therapy plays a vital role in supporting occupational therapists to deliver high-quality rehabilitative care to residents. This position focuses on assisting patients in regaining and improving their daily living and work skills through therapeutic activities and exercises. The COTA collaborates closely with the occupational therapy team to implement treatment plans tailored to individual resident needs, ensuring progress toward functional independence.

Additionally, the role involves monitoring resident responses, documenting treatment outcomes, and maintaining a safe and hygienic environment. Ultimately, the COTA contributes significantly to enhancing residents' quality of life by promoting recovery and adaptation in various settings.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist occupational therapists in implementing individualized treatment plans designed to improve residents' functional abilities.
  • Contributes to the evaluation process by performing objective test(s), under the supervision of the OTR.
  • Provide direct resident care including therapeutic exercises, activities, and modalities under supervision.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining supplies as needed.
  • If needed, occasionally travels to other locations to provide therapy coverage during changes in demand or service delivery.
  • Maintain clear and timely documentation of treatments and communicate effectively with the therapy team and residents.
  • Prepare and organize therapy equipment and treatment areas to facilitate efficient therapy sessions.
  • Alerts Therapist to resident progress and any need to update or reevaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan.
  • Educate residents and their families on therapeutic techniques and home exercise programs to support ongoing recovery.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program.
  • Current and valid state licensure or certification to practice as a COTA.
  • Must have a valid Indiana Operator's license.
  • Basic computer literacy to document resident records and communicate within electronic health systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in outpatient rehabilitation or long-term care settings.
  • Additional training or certification in specialized therapeutic techniques or modalities.
  • Continuing education in occupational therapy best practices and resident safety.
