Summary

The Director - Operations reports to the Division Vice President and is responsible for the oversight of assets and personnel in the Midland Basin. These assets include gasification plants, gas transmission, and natural gas gathering. Assets are regulated and non-regulated gathering of natural gas pipelines in the Midland Basin Division. The position is located within field operations and will require regional travel within the Midland Basin.

The incumbent oversees compressor stations and cryo facilities through subordinate positions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides daily assistance and guidance to Area personnel necessary to ensure operation reliability and integrity of facilities, prioritizing and assigning problems and questions to the Division Technical staff.
  • Directs and monitors outage schedule, identifies potential problems that may affect throughput and advises Areas management on priority maintenance needs.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State and Local governmental regulations, Company, and departmental policies through participation in audits, review of reports, and Area work plans.
  • Partners with subordinates to establish goals and long-range plans to improve operations, cost control, safety, and training; emphasizes modernization/upgrade of equipment to keep pace with technological advancements.
  • Provides Emergency Response coordination, communication, and support; mitigates emergency events, coordinates initial response, and ensures timely investigation and repairs.
  • Assists in interviewing and selection of personnel for technical and supervisory positions; makes salary recommendations as requested; assists Division Vice President in evaluating area supervisory performance.
  • Reviews training needs of hourly employees and initiates steps to provide training related to equipment inspections, preventative maintenance procedures and repair.
  • Active participation in monthly safety meetings and local safety committees.
  • Maintains cost control of Area through monthly reviews of actual vs planned results and adjusts future activities to maintain expenditures consistent with operations and policy.
  • Monitors operation and maintenance of the storage field to ensure availability for storage or withdrawal; reviews well work plans to improve efficiency and recoverability of stored gas.
  • Monitors maintenance work to ensure quality and timely problem resolution; sets goals with the Operations Manager and hourly personnel for quality and productivity.
  • Operates without day-to-day direction from the Division Vice President when objectives are met and activities align with approved work plans and budgets.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with other regions, organizations, and regulatory agencies; fosters customer and community relations.
Education and/or Experience , Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • 12+ years of experience in the natural gas industry in the area of Operations, including time in natural gas transmission.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of regulations applicable to natural gas processing plants and natural gas pipelines; 49

    CFR
    192 regulations relevant to natural gas transmission.
  • General knowledge of environmental regulations related to gas compression and processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and independently; sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to detect problems and make corrections quickly; ensure maintenance and construction activities comply with standards and procedures.
