Overview
BHTs provide direct care for clients in residential and detox programs. Under the supervision of the Behavior Health Technician Manager, BHTs monitor, observe, and report client activities while providing structure and support. Candidates should be upbeat, positive, energetic, and outgoing, with the ability to multi-task, take initiative, and think ahead. BHTs handle client concerns and problem solve while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.
Responsibilities- Provide the highest possible quality of care for patients struggling with alcohol and substance abuse recovery
- Follow and enforce all program rules
- Work closely with people with addiction and mental health disorders
- Collaborate with staff across all departments
- Perform client rounds and document observed or communicated behaviors
- Read shift notes at the beginning of the shift and complete shift notes by the end of the shift
- Maintain appropriate boundaries, ethical and moral standards, and confidentiality with all clients
- Transport patients to appointments, labs, activities, and community or special events
- Attend and participate in required staff meetings and training
- Conduct new client admissions when Admissions Department is not available
- Multitask in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Maintain a visible presence on the floor
- Knowledge of substance abuse/addiction issues or related work experience
- Participate in staff, treatment team, and leadership team meetings as appropriate
- Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions throughout the facilities (e.g., trash collection)
- Other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to learn quickly, multitask, and communicate effectively (phone and in-person)
- Scheduling flexibility, holiday, and weekend rotation is REQUIRED
- Must hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Positive demeanor and clear understanding of professional boundaries with clients
- Knowledge of addiction/mental health disorders preferred
- Ability to follow directives while adhering to facility policies with seamless implementation
- Time management, team approach, and basic computer skills
- Valid Driver’s license and Proof of Insurance
- CPR or BLS certification (must be completed within 60 days of hire)
- Mobility: twist, bend, stoop/squat, move quickly (respond to emergencies); climb stairs; prolonged standing and walking; able to climb ladders or crawl into awkward spaces; move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles over time
- Hearing: ability to hear normal speaking level sounds and alarms
- Visual: see information up to 24 inches away and up to 20 feet away; depth perception and peripheral vision
- Strength: frequently move/lift up to 50 lbs; capable of using a fire extinguisher
- Work Environment: exposure to moving parts and outside conditions including inclement weather; noise may be loud
- Other: reach above/below/forward; use hands to write and use a computer; manipulate small objects; twist at waist and wrists
- Focus/Process Adherence: maintain focus on tasks in a busy environment
