The Procurement Category Senior Manager oversees the entire DaVita Way of Procurement process for large global categories (typically >$50M spend, and up to $500M), from strategy development to execution. They set goals, manage supplier relationships, and collaborate with field/regional counterparts for optimal strategy implementation.
Expected Outcomes Driven by the Teammate:
Savings, Innovation, improved quality and Service – Leading the entire category management process ensures optimized strategies, fostering efficiency and innovation in procurement practices. Yearly Savings targets will vary from $1.0 to $3.5M. Creative Commercial Outcomes – Developing and executing effective "go to market" strategies facilitates successful negotiations, driving favorable commercial terms and value creation. Regular negotiations with VP, Director level erdepartmental Collaboration – Lead cross‑functional teams to understand business requirements and develop category strategies.
Maintain alignment on supplier solutions with business unit leadership. Collaborating across business units and regional teams fosters positive organizational outcomes, ensuring alignment and synergy in procurement efforts. Supplier Relationship Management – Leading supplier performance management processes enhance supplier relationships, fostering accountability and driving continuous improvement.
- Develop extensive market knowledge and a deep understanding of the assigned spend areas. Provide guidance on available supplier solutions and overall category strategy.
- Identify additional areas for Procurement engagement and increase spend under management.
- Lead collaboration with internal business partners, both clinical and technical, to understand demand and supplier trends. Build effective relationships and successfully influence key stakeholders to adopt best practices related to sourcing and supplier strategies.
- Develop and gain internal alignment on category strategies for assigned areas. Lead sourcing activities to support strategy and make adjustments to support changing business requirements or priorities.
- Manage supplier relationships including developing supplier performance (KPIs), capability development, cost and quality improvements for key suppliers and product categories. Conduct regular reviews with suppliers and key stakeholders and assess performance to targets and KPIs.
- Identify and document supplier risk items to develop mitigation strategies and plans.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills with ability to extract key themes, determine root causes, develop creative solutions, and craft concise messages.
- Monitor compliance with DaVita’s product formularies and ensure contract terms are being met.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Viewed as a peer leader within the team and department.
- May lead 2 or more direct reports, providing guidance on projects and priorities, coaching and development, and holding team members accountable to objectives and targets.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree with 7‑9 years of relevant SC/Procurement experience, or an MBA with background in contract analysis and negotiation. Experience in Finance, Operations and similar functions is applicable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The position requires interaction with teammates in various departments and with supplier partners.
- Able to work independently to balance multiple tasks and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Experience leading & executing RFPs and competitive bidding processes.
- Excellent computer skills in Excel, PowerPoint & Word, ability to operate Tableau (building dashboards is not required but experience is valued).
