Position: Machine Tool Technology Instructor Location: Anderson Institute of Technology (AIT)
Program Area: Career and Technical Education (CTE) - Advanced Manufacturing Grade Levels: 11–12 Reports To: Executive Director/Designee Employment: Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARYThe Machine Tool Technology Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality, industry-aligned Career and Technical Education instruction that prepares high school students for successful entry into postsecondary education, apprenticeships, industry credentials, and careers in advanced manufacturing and machining.
The instructor will provide classroom, laboratory, and hands-on instruction aligned with South Carolina Career and Technical Education Machine Tool Technology standards. Instruction will emphasize precision machining, measurement, blueprint interpretation, machine operation, CNC technology, safety, quality control, employability skills, and modern manufacturing practices.
The instructor will maintain a safe, organized, and industry-standard laboratory environment while developing strong partnerships with local employers, postsecondary institutions, advisory committee members, and other community stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInstruction and Curriculum
- Plan, prepare, and deliver rigorous classroom and laboratory instruction aligned with South Carolina CTE Machine Tool Technology course standards.
- Provide instruction in areas such as:
- Shop and laboratory safety
- Precision measurement and inspection
- Blueprint reading and technical drawings
- Applied mathematics for machining
- Layout procedures
- Benchwork and hand tools
- Drilling and related machining operations
- Manual lathe operations
- Milling machine operations
- Grinding and finishing operations
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining
- CNC programming and setup
- Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), when applicable
- Machine set up, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Quality assurance and quality control
- Manufacturing processes and production practices
- Integrate academic concepts in mathematics, science, engineering, and technology into authentic machining applications.
- Develop lesson plans, demonstrations, laboratory activities, projects, and assessments that promote technical competency and problem-solving.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Maintain appropriate instructional documentation, student records, grades, and assessment data.
Laboratory Safety, Equipment, and Inventory
- Establish and consistently enforce industry-standard safety procedures.
- Provide documented safety instruction and require students to demonstrate safety competency before operating machinery or equipment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional machine shop environment.
- Inspect machinery, tools, personal protective equipment, and safety systems regularly.
- Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, tooling, materials, and consumable supplies.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and report equipment requiring repair or replacement.
