Electrical Engineer II/III (Based on experience)
Job Description
This role leads the hardware design and implementation of embedded power electronics for battery-powered products, with a strong focus on power conversion and motor control development. You will work across the full product development lifecycle in a collaborative team environment, partnering closely with quality, manufacturing, hardware, firmware, product development, and test engineering to deliver robust, high-performance solutions.
Responsibilities
+ Lead the hardware design and implementation of embedded power electronics for battery-powered products, ensuring robust and reliable performance.
+ Own the design of power electronics hardware, including system architecture, schematic capture, component selection, and evaluation of design tradeoffs.
+ Design and debug MOSFET switching power stages and supporting circuits such as gate drive, protection, current and voltage sensing, and power sequencing for low-voltage, high-current applications.
+ Support motor control hardware implementations, including inverter and bridge power stages, as well as associated sensing and protection circuits.
+ Collaborate closely with firmware engineers to define, implement, and optimize hardware/firmware interfaces for embedded systems.
+ Directly support prototype development, including building, testing, and troubleshooting embedded electronic assemblies.
+ Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for hardware issues using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, ESD/EMC tools, data acquisition systems, and analysis software.
+ Lead design activities from concept through release, including component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout guidance, prototype builds, and test plan development and execution.
+ Track projects to ensure adherence to schedule and alignment with the organization's stage-gate product development process.
+ Communicate clearly and consistently with a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, motivating teams up, down, and across the organization to maintain urgency and accountability for key project metrics.
Essential Skills
+ Strong hardware design experience with embedded power electronics for battery-powered products.
+ Solid foundation in electrical engineering and electrical hardware design.
+ Deep knowledge of low-voltage battery systems and their application in embedded products.
+ Hands-on experience designing microcontroller-based circuits and embedded hardware platforms.
+ Proficiency in designing and debugging MOSFET-based switching power stages and related circuits, including gate drive, protection, current and voltage sensing, and power sequencing.
+ Experience supporting motor control hardware implementations such as inverter and bridge power stages with appropriate sensing and protection.
+ Ability to use and interpret results from lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, ESD/EMC tools, and data acquisition systems.
+ Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for embedded electronic systems.
+ Ability to lead hardware design activities such as component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout collaboration, and prototype validation.
+ Effective communication skills to engage and influence cross-functional teams and drive accountability toward project goals.
+ Exposure to firmware and understanding of hardware/firmware integration in embedded systems.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working within a structured stage-gate product development process.
+ Collaborating with cross-functional teams including quality, manufacturing, firmware, product development, and test engineering.
+ Familiarity with analysis software tools used in evaluating power electronics and embedded hardware performance.
+ Interest in professional growth within a large, technology-driven organization with advanced equipment and processes.
+ Ability to balance technical rigor with practical considerations such as manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
