TITLE: Systems Engineer
STATUS/FLSA: Full-time / Exempt
PAY SCHEDULE/GRADE: District Level Admin / Group 3
DIRECT REPORTS: Full-time ( ) / Part-time ( )
SUPERVISOR: Sr. Systems Engineer
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days (if employed for the full contract calendar). Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated annually by the Sr. Systems Engineer.
General DescriptionThe purpose of this classification is to perform a wide variety of IT support duties ranging from simple desktop and peripheral support to addressing complex server and network issues. Responsible for providing administration and tier 3 support for technology systems, and serving as project manager and first contact for escalated tier 3 support cases.
Essential Duties- Provide tier 3 engineering support and expertise for technology support cases escalated by technology support technicians.
- Perform the installation, configuration, and maintenance of local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) hardware which includes routers, switches, firewalls, web filters, load balancers, network access controllers, and other network appliances for the network.
- Investigate, design, develop, implement, evaluate, and maintain wireless network infrastructure and wireless networking projects to support one to one computing.
- Develop and document technical processes and procedures for technicians and end users to use in support for new systems and new technological initiatives.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting related to all centrally managed systems.
- Investigate, design, develop, implement, evaluate, and administer Voice over IP phone systems network infrastructure and VOIP projects.
- Provide expertise and training for all technology support staff including computer technicians and school facilitators.
- Assist Sr. Systems Engineer with maintaining licensing and inventory of all centrally managed systems.
- Assist Sr. Systems Engineer with implementing and updating District security strategies and equipment, including backups, updates, and Disaster Recovery Plans.
- Remain knowledgeable of current industry trends and their potential effect on District technology services.
- Provide 24/7 support and uptime for enterprise systems.
- Install, maintain, patch, and upgrade network instructional and operational enterprise software.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Knowledge of network equipment and infrastructure, including firewalls, WAN optimization, switches, routers, cabling, and processes;
Knowledge of servers and centrally managed hardware and software, including Operating systems, databases, Email services, Virtualized Environments, storage arrays, backup systems, cloud software, and services;
Ability to lead and mentor others;
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
Knowledge of District processes, operations, and policies;
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations, protocols and procedures;
Good interpersonal and organization skills;
Ability to multi‑task effectively. Knowledge of scripting and scripting languages are helpful.
Use computers for data entry; or handle, use, or repair hand‑held power equipment or light machinery;
Use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or custom applications;
Use, develop, or repair electronics or complex software, hardware, or network systems; operate, install, test or inspect heavy or complex machinery;
Supervise the activities of those operating or repairing complex machinery or technology systems;
Interpret policy and establish methods and procedures for acquiring, installing, testing, operating or repairing machinery or technology systems;
Establish policy for the acquisition, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of machinery or technology systems;
Establish long‑range plans and programs for capital improvements, major construction projects, or new technology systems.
Completion of a Bachelor's degree
- Information Technology preferred
5 years. Experience may be submitted for education.
LicensesRequired
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
Preferred: ITIL Certification;
Project management certification;
Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional Certification; VMWare Certification
