Position Summary
The Sustaining Engineer II is responsible for independently owning and maintaining Busbar product designs and related Product Lifecycle Management activities, ensuring accurate, controlled, and production-ready outputs throughout the product lifecycle. This role focuses on operations support, including providing timely response to design-related production issues, driving Design for Manufacturability improvements, and influencing cross-functional outcomes that improve safety, quality, and efficiency. Busbar is an Engineered-To-Order product, which means each customer order is specifically engineered and often involves higher complexity and variation across supporting functions.
This role reflects a higher level of ownership, judgment, and independence, with an expectation to begin learning the fundamentals of another sustaining engineering focus area.
- Independently maintain Busbar design data and Product Lifecycle Management accuracy for assigned work
- Lead medium-complexity sustaining engineering efforts with minimal supervision
- Provide operations support for design-related production issues, including issue triage, root cause investigation, and corrective action coordination
- Identify and cross-functionally coordinate Design for Manufacturability improvements that support safety, quality, and efficiency
- Support supply chain constraints through design evaluation and implementation of practical engineering solutions
- Support New Product Development and Introduction activities as they transition into sustaining ownership
- Build foundational knowledge in at least one additional sustaining engineering area to broaden long-term capability
- Demonstrated capability in product design, 3D modeling, and 2D drafting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability
- Experience using Product Lifecycle Management systems
- Knowledge of sheet metal and copper design
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated ability to independently own project work and influence cross-functional outcomes
- Ability to lead medium-complexity efforts with minimal supervision
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
