Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Supervising Lead Mechanical Engineer (HVAC) to lead the design and execution of HVAC systems for large-scale Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects. This role provides technical leadership, oversees engineering deliverables, mentors engineering staff, and ensures projects are executed safely, accurately, on schedule, and in compliance with applicable codes and quality standards. Experience supporting Department of Energy (DOE) or other federal projects is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise mechanical engineering teams, providing technical guidance to engineers and designers.
  • Develop and review HVAC system designs, specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, airflow analysis, and system sizing.
  • Develop:
  • HVAC air flow diagrams
  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Sequence of operations
  • HVAC specifications
  • Size and specify HVAC equipment including:
  • Air handling units (AHUs)
  • Boilers
  • Cooling towers
  • Air compressors
  • Design HVAC ductwork layouts, distribution systems, and routing.
  • Coordinate with project management, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review vendor submittals and participate in technical bid evaluations.
  • Support procurement, construction, and field engineering activities, including RFIs and design changes.
  • Develop engineering estimates, schedules, staffing forecasts, and progress reports.
  • Track project quantities, costs, and engineering progress.
  • Ensure work complies with project quality plans, engineering standards, project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Support construction and commissioning activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience with an emphasis on HVAC design.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Engineering calculations
  • Mechanical equipment selection
  • Applicable federal, state, and local codes
  • DOE orders and engineering standards
  • Experience using engineering analysis tools, 3D modeling, and 2D CADD software in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • DOE or other U.S. Federal Government project experience.
  • Experience with nuclear, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology facilities.
  • Proven leadership on large multidisciplinary EPC projects.
  • Experience with project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, and project closeout.
  • Practical construction or field engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of material selection, constructability, and equipment procurement.
