This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) – Office of Mental Health, Patrick
B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.
- Provide direct care to adult psychiatric patients including those who are deaf and have co‑occurring disorders utilizing age‑specific interventions. Identify obvious symptoms of physical and emotional illnesses through observation and record analysis. Must be able to stoop, bend, lift, and move quickly.
- Perform ongoing nursing assessment and participate in Treatment Team planning to include employing interventions and evaluating outcomes. Conduct patient education and participate in discharge planning.
- Accurately document assessments, interventions and education in patients' medical record in real time. Communicate findings as appropriate with interdisciplinary team.
- Perform medication administration utilizing closed‑loop style and monitor process in order to evaluate compliance, deviation from normal conditions, effectiveness and completion of medication education.
- Precept new licensed staff to unit and serve as a resource to other disciplines and subordinate nursing staff regarding medical issues.
- Assist in auditing clinical records to evaluate professional practice standards and quality of care. Report adverse events, unusual occurrences, and medication variances in an accurate and timely manner.
- Relieve Nurse Manager I and Nurse Manager I as appropriate.
- Maintain clinical competency by attending and qualifying in all non‑mandatory (15 hours) and mandatory training classes yearly (e.g. MAPS/MANDT, CPR, SCEIS, cross training, and age‑specific criteria).
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors. Able to provide emergency care such as CPR.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
- Have the ability to plan and manage the nursing care of a group of patients in a hospital setting.
- Have the ability to work well with other disciplines.
