This PART-TIME TEMPORARY position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick
B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.
As the Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), within scope of practice as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, and under the supervision of a Psychiatrist you will provide services to patients and serve as a part of a Treatment team who provides evidenced based services. This is a single fixed point of responsibility for treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs for patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who require higher levels of care and have not been well supported in lower level of care options.
Responsibilities for the Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) include:
- Conduct psychiatric examinations and ongoing evaluations in order to diagnose and treat patient conditions. Conduct rounds in the care and treatment of assigned patients. Complete all clinical documentation, and legal and administrative requirements for assigned caseload, including admission notes, progress notes, treatment plan documentation, discharge summaries, and other reports as necessary.
- Provide leadership in treatment planning and in treatment team meetings for assigned caseload. Collaborate with other disciplines in the identification of patient needs and interventions. Provide or make referrals for necessary treatments.

B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital. - Participate in both formal and informal clinical supervision with psychiatrist supervisor(s) as determined by clinical supervisor(s) and Medical Director.
- Attend and participate in medical staff and transition of care meetings. Participate in peer review and continuous quality management programs and initiatives, including participation in the identification of areas for improvement and in developing and implementing improved processes.
- Participate in psychiatric coverage at times of psychiatrist absence/shortage.
- Maintain clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in-services or training, including MAPS, CPR, and SCEIS.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with clinical experience.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
Additional Requirements
- Must be flexible in regard to work environment and travel.
- Must be able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors, including but not limited to, combative, threatening, acting out and unpredictable violence.
- Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) lbs., may be required to lift more during times of emergencies.
- Ability to squat, push, kneel, bend, and maneuver to assist patients.
- A master's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a registered nurse with official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner by the SC Board of Nursing, practicing in the extended role with prescriptive authority in the state of South Carolina.
- Related nursing experience.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Post hire, employees must:
- Have advanced experience/knowledge of psychiatric illnesses symptoms and psychotropic medications
- The ability to function in multi-disciplinary team
- Have advanced knowledge and application of nursing practice, with the ability to teach this to other nursing staff when appropriate
