Position Summary

The purpose of the class is to drive and operate transit vehicles to safely transport the public on designated routes in a timely manner, following all applicable laws, policies and regulations. This class works according to set procedures under close supervision.

Position Responsibilities – Essential Job Functions
  • Drive City transit vehicles to safely transport persons on designated routes in a timely manner, following all applicable laws, policies and regulations.
  • Conduct safety inspections of the bus before starting the engine.
  • Provide courteous customer service to passengers at all times.
  • Deviate from established routes as requested by passengers and as permitted by division policy.
  • Collect and maintain accountability of passenger fares until submitted by supervisor.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned bus; submit maintenance requests as needed.
  • Prepare and submit various records and reports as required.
  • Receive and respond to inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding area of responsibility.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and requested.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
  • Must possess a valid state Class “B” commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement.
  • Requires over six months and up to and including one year of experience.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with ability to develop strong professional working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to speak compound sentences using normal grammar and word form.
  • Ability to plan effectively, set priorities, make sound decisions and manage/complete multi-faceted projects in conjunction with normal activity.
  • Superior organizational skills, strong quality orientation, and high attention to detail.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and custom applications.
  • Strong ethical standards, reliability, professionalism, positive attitude, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Work Environment

Employees are expected to cooperate in establishing and maintaining a safe and healthful work environment. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE may be required based on job duties.
