Position Summary

The Doctorate of Educational Leadership Program at Merrimack College invites applicants for one (1) open-rank, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position to begin in Fall 2026. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in education, or a closely related field, and must have experience both as a graduate faculty member (including as an adjunct faculty member) and as a current or former leader in a P-12 educational context, organization, or district.

The candidate will be responsible for teaching a total of 5 courses across fall, spring, and summer semesters, serve as an academic advisor, serve on dissertation committees, participate in four residencies annually, and actively contribute to the EdD program, the School of Education and Social Policy, and Merrimack College.

The EdD Program at Merrimack College

The Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership is designed to support the career advancement of experienced education and non-profit professionals, preparing them to lead in a complex and ever-changing world. The EdD builds upon Merrimack College's proven teacher preparation and human services academic programs as well as the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED) Framework. With a focus on transformative leadership, the program offers three concentrations, allowing students to tailor their studies to their career goals.

This flexible, online program prepares graduates to lead change, advocate for progress, and address the evolving challenges of educational, organizational, and community settings.

The faculty member will teach a total of 5 courses and serve on dissertation committees across the fall, spring, and summer semesters. All teaching will be conducted online and asynchronously; each course includes up to four hours of synchronous virtual instruction per semester. Applicants must have experience teaching at the graduate level and serving as chairs or committee members for dissertation committees.

The successful candidate should demonstrate the experience and ability to teach a range of courses in the EdD curriculum, including leadership courses, professional seminars, research methods, and electives. The faculty member will be responsible for providing formal online teaching, effective delivery of instructional material and course management (e.g., assessments, grading), advising, mentoring, and supervision of graduate students, attending faculty meetings, participating actively in both on-campus and virtual residencies, and completing other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director and Dean.

Qualifications

Required:

* Doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) from an accredited institution, preferably in education or related social science.

* Three years (minimum) experience in graduate-level course development and instruction in a remote and/or hybrid environment.

* Documentation of successful teaching practices and positive student assessment of teaching.

* Strong understanding of doctoral pedagogy, specific to the development of scholar practitioners in education (K-16) and/or human services.

Preferred:

* Experience supporting specific student populations, including first-generation, adult learners, international, and other underrepresented students.

* Experience supporting doctoral student writing and dissertation development.

* Experience supporting graduate students in developing effective writing and oral communication skills.

* Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

* Commitment to promoting belonging, equity, and access in graduate education.

* Familiarity with online learning systems and pedagogies.
