Job DescriptionReporting to the Director of Grants and Workforce Development, the Vocational Teacher’s role is to help students learn career area subject matter in accordance with educational frameworks (modified for the two year After Dark Program) and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches district approved curriculum; prepares lesson plans accordingly.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior and work ethic when working on special projects.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals; establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Ensures accuracy and best practices for compliance of organizational standards.
- Keeps records and prepares progress reports.
- Keeps current in discipline and teaching techniques.
- Participates in professional development and remains current in the field.
- Leads / collaborates with the class paraprofessional to make sure learnings are accessible to all students, including English Language Learners.
- Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the classroom and students. Leads collaboration with paraprofessional.
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma is required; a college degree and prior teaching experience, preferably in a vocational high school setting or any combination of education and work experience. Five years of recent (within the last seven years) of full-time employment experience directly related to vocational teaching area is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Massachusetts Chapter 74 Teaching License in vocational education or working to obtain the license. State issued driver’s license is preferred.

SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively prepare lesson plans in accordance with district curriculum and the state Curriculum Frameworks. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, teachers, and the general public. - MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. - REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district;
