Scholar Transportation Volunteer

Our mission is to reduce inequity in education by providing young Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) academic and leadership opportunities. A Better Chance of Andover provides academically talented young women of color with an opportunity to grow, thrive, and become leaders. Accepted scholars attend Andover High School, live in a dormitory on Main Street, and receive support from academic advisors, college counselors, a host family, and a community of volunteers.

To date, over 150 alumni have gone on to college.

A Better Chance (ABC) of Andover is a residential educational opportunity program that offers academically talented young women of color from underserved communities access to outstanding educational opportunities at local independent schools. Scholars live together in a supportive residential community while pursuing rigorous academic and leadership opportunities.

Volunteer drivers play a critical role in helping ABC scholars access educational, extracurricular, medical, and community opportunities. By providing safe and reliable transportation, volunteer drivers help ensure scholars can fully participate in the experiences that support their growth and success. This role is ideal for community members who want to make a meaningful impact but may have limited time available for ongoing volunteering.

• Provide transportation for scholars to and from approved activities, appointments, school events, and other program‑related commitments.
• Arrive on time and communicate clearly with ABC staff regarding schedules and transportation needs.
• Ensure scholars are transported safely and responsibly.
• Follow all ABC transportation policies and procedures.
• Maintain a respectful, supportive, and professional environment while transporting scholars.
• Promptly report any concerns or incidents to ABC staff.

• Valid driver's license.
• Safe driving record.
• Access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
• Ability to pass required background and driving record checks.
• Dependable, punctual, and committed to student safety.
• Strong communication skills.

Flexible and based on volunteer availability. Transportation needs may include weekday afternoons and evenings, weekends, or occasional special events. Volunteers may choose opportunities that fit their schedules.

Something as simple as a ride can open the door to educational opportunities, extracurricular involvement, healthcare access, and community engagement. Volunteer drivers help remove transportation barriers and ensure scholars can fully participate in the experiences that support their success. Whether you volunteer once a month or several times throughout the year, your time and support can make a meaningful difference in a scholar’s journey.

All volunteer drivers must complete the ABC volunteer application process, background screening, driving record verification, and any required orientation prior to transporting scholars.
