Position: Moderate Special Needs Permanent Substitute Teacher (Aug - Dec 2026)

Position:
Special Education Teacher – Moderate Needs

  • Provide teamed, small group or individualized instruction and academic support in mainstream or pullout setting according to students' IEP goals.
  • Modify and adapt curricula, materials, and the physical environment to meet individual student needs.
  • Complete diagnostic academic testing (formal/informal) as required.
  • Participate in IEP team meetings for assigned or newly referred students.
  • Act as case manager, communicating with parents and staff, and preparing progress reports, annual review narratives, and IEPs.
  • Write specific IEP goals and objectives for assigned or newly referred students.
  • Design and implement behavior support plans for selected students.
  • Provide consultation services to school staff regarding curriculum and teaching methods for special education students.
  • Prepare progress reports on all assigned students.
  • Submit budget requests, inventory data, or required reports per Program Head’s request.
  • Deliver small group or individual instruction to special needs pupils as prescribed in their educational plans.
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Teaching Certification:
    Teacher of Moderate Special Needs.
  • Experience instructing students with learning disabilities, social‑emotional disabilities, autism, and other special needs.
  • Experience adapting materials and curriculum for special needs students.
  • Strong curriculum and academic background.
  • Ability to consult with general‑education teachers regarding learning needs of special‑education students.
  • Experience designing and implementing behavioral management programs.
  • Experience with inclusive instructional models and willingness to team‑teach.
  • Experience utilizing computer technology in the classroom preferred.
