Substitute teachers are responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the teacher for whom they are substituting and otherwise meeting the duties of teaching.
ResponsibilitiesSpecific activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for providing continuity of instruction to students in the absence of regular faculty members.
- Instruct assigned students employing varied instructional strategies.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues, parents and administrators.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as required.
At least 2 years of college and/or 2 years of relevant experience working with students. Experience working with and supervising children. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.

Without a Bachelor's Degree - $107
With a Bachelor's Degree or Higher - $123
Retired (Andover) Massachusetts Teacher - $139
As a substitute teacher, you are employed strictly on an on-call, per diem basis. It is difficult to anticipate how many days during the school year you might be called on to teach. However, substitute teachers who indicate flexibility with respect to assignment and availability have a distinct advantage.
