The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Merrimack College is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice, Non-Tenure-Track (NTT) faculty member to join the department starting in Fall 2027.
This 9- month faculty position offers an opportunity to play an important role in a growing and evolving department. The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice offers undergraduate and graduate programs designed to prepare students to understand complex issues of crime, justice, public service, and community safety from multiple perspectives. Our programs include the Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice;
the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science, offered jointly with the Department of Biochemistry; the Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice; the Master of Public Administration; and a new 96-credit degree pathway in Criminal Justice.
We seek candidates who connect academic learning with professional practice, bringing industry insights and networks from law enforcement agencies, courts, corrections, victim services, nonprofit and community organizations, government agencies, or other organizations working across the broader criminal justice ecosystem to create applied learning opportunities and mentor students toward successful careers.
Primary Responsibilities- Teach required undergraduate and graduate courses in Research Methods and Statistics in Criminology and Criminal Justice and related areas;
- Serve as a mentor to students exploring career pathways, internships, applied experiences, and graduate study;
- Develop partnerships with criminal justice and related organizations;
- Represent the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Admissions events.
- Doctoral degree in Criminology Criminal Justice Law Public Administration or a related field.;
- Relevant professional or research experience in criminal justice law public safety victim services law enforcement courts corrections government nonprofit or community-based organizations or another field related to the department’s programs;
- Demonstrated ability or potential to be an effective and engaging college level teacher who can connect academic concepts with contemporary issues and professional practice;
- Preparation to teach courses in research methods and/or statistics in criminology and criminal justice as well as courses related to the candidate’s areas of expertise;
- Interest and ability to build relationships with professionals agencies and community organizations that can enhance students’ classroom experiential learning and career opportunities;
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Experience teaching or supporting student learning at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Expertise in domestic violence and/or victimology although candidates with expertise in other areas of criminology and criminal justice are encouraged to apply.
- Experience mentoring students, interns or early-career professionals.
- Experience with internships field-based learning community-engaged projects or other forms of experiential education.
- Professional relationships within the criminal justice or public service community that could contribute to student learning and career exploration
