Role OverviewThis position is a Materials Engineer specializing in Metallurgy, located onsite in Andover, MA. It provides metallurgical support throughout the product life cycle, including design, development, production, failure analysis, mechanical testing, and new material qualification. The role also involves advanced additive manufacturing support and supplier process coordination.
Responsibilities- Evaluate materials and processes for compliance with specifications and design/performance requirements.
- Provide metallurgical support throughout the product life cycle.
- Support product production and supplier activities.
- Resolve technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes.
- Participate in analysis and documentation of technical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, and failure analysis.
- Travel up to 25% as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science/Engineering or Metallurgy and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with at least 7 years experience.
- Experience with metal alloy systems such as Aluminum, Copper, Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Corrosion‑Resistant Steel, High‑Temperature Materials, and Specialty Alloys.
- Experience in metallurgical heat treatment and pyrometry (e.g., SAE AMS
2750, SAE AMS
2759, SAE AMS
2770).
- Experience working with metals in design and development (material selections) and/or evaluating metals for product use.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings and technical data packages (TDPs).
- Customer‑facing technical leadership and presentation experience to customers or industry committees.
- Experience on defense industry programs, projects, or products.
- Experience serving as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, Integrated Product Team, quality, and/or supply chain organizations.
- Experience with metal manufacturing methods (casting, forging, mill products, heat treatment, furnace brazing, additive manufacturing).
- Experience evaluating suppliers performing special manufacturing processes; familiarity with Nadcap on either subscriber or supplier side.
- Knowledge of industry standards for metals and metal manufacturing (Aerospace Materials Specifications, American Welding Society, ASTM International).
- Understanding of corrosion fundamentals and mitigation techniques.
- Experience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific‐based projects, including failure analysis and obsolescence investigations.
Salary range: $132,400 – $251,600 USD (good faith estimate).
