Job Overview
Principal Electrical Engineer – Failure Analysis – Andover, MA (Onsite). This role requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. The position focuses on electrical component evaluations and root‑cause failure analysis across a variety of devices, from passive components to complex microcircuits and cables.
Key Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive analyses, including visual photo‑documentation, electrical testing, non‑destructive troubleshooting, environmental testing, X‑ray evaluation, destructive testing, decapsulation, cross‑sections, SEM evaluation, and writing detailed final reports.
- Operate laboratory equipment such as microscopes, oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, LCR analyzers, curve tracers, semiconductor parameter analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, frequency generators, signal generators, power meters, hi‑pot testers, megohmmeters, laser millers, plasma etchers, chemical jet etchers, bond pullers, etc.
- Manage multiple analyses concurrently.
- Collaborate with engineers in materials, chemistry, and other disciplines across the department.
- Research, investigate, and experiment with new failure analysis techniques.
- University degree (or equivalent experience) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Proven experience in electronic component failure analysis.
- Experience using electrical test equipment.
- Knowledge of reading electrical schematics and circuit analysis.
- Familiarity with component data sheets and drawings.
- Data collection and presentation skills for clear reports and presentations of findings.
- Technical working knowledge of electrical components and their applications, including materials such as metal wire bonding, substrates, solder, adhesives, and encapsulants.
- Salary Range: $107,500 – $204,500 USD.
