Principal Engineer, Automation Sustainment Lead IV

Responsibilities

• Provide troubleshooting support and fault recovery for over 20 custom robotic systems across the factory.
• Implement improvements to production automation systems, primarily programming robotics, PLCs, and vision systems.
• Lead technical resolution of issues and provide leadership through issue resolution.
• Conduct meetings to prioritize issues and track them to resolution using Azure Dev Ops.
• Liaise with engineering and operations stakeholders to understand and resolve issues.
• Define and implement a spares inventory system.
• Contribute to the overall manufacturing technology strategy for the business.
• Design, develop, implement, and sustain automation solutions in support of manufacturing.
• Develop and improve physical automation solutions (robots, PLCs, HMIs, and vision systems) and integrate them with business systems using Ignition.

• Degree in STEM with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or 5+ years with an advanced STEM degree.
• Experience integrating control systems (actuators, sensors, controls, robotics, and vision systems).
• Experience with PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell preferred).
• Experience programming robots (Fanuc preferred).
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued Secret security clearance.

• Strategic vision and experience implementing emerging technologies.
• Experience with Keyence, Cognex, or iRVision.
• Strong technical leadership and problem‑solving skills.
• Knowledge of safety standards and compliance (OSHA, NFPA, RIA).
• Proficiency with agile methods and tools (Azure Dev Ops preferred).
• Software programming experience (Ignition platform, Python, MSSQL).
• Experience in control system design and documentation (AutoCAD Electrical).
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing or process automation.

Active DoD Secret clearance required. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
