Job Summary

We are seeking a Principal Hardware Quality Engineer with hands‑on hardware quality experience to become a key part of the Operations Quality – Continuous Improvement Team. This role works with leaders in Operations, Quality, Program Management, and Engineering to solve problems and drive improvements on advanced defense systems. Embedded within programs and integrated into the factory, the team leverages CORE, APQP, and RCCA principles to elevate quality and deliver measurable results.

What

you will do
  • Baseline factory metrics (Scrap, Rework, FPY, TUH, etc.), identify top drivers, forecast future demand, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Engage MFG DPT teams to ensure alignment on top priorities (using baseline data and future forecast) to drive containment, Root Cause Analysis and associated Corrective Action Implementation.
  • Perform process walks, operator observations, and lead MFG team discussions to drive process enhancements that reduce variation.
  • Help drive standardized data entry to improve data analysis cycle time.
  • Lead/Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives (PFMEA, control plans, SPC, etc.) using baseline metrics and future demand.
  • Calculate Return on Investment (ROI) and obtain alignment from Program and MFG teams for identified continuous improvement project opportunities.
  • Perform verification and validation of improvements to understand effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to be leveraged across similar process/assemblies as well as other programs.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or other technical field of study and a minimum of eight (8) years related Quality Engineering experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Manufacturing process knowledge in one of: assembly, inspection, or test.
  • Experience in identifying root cause and initiating/implementing effective short‑term and long‑term corrective actions.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and partners (both internal and external to Raytheon).
  • Experience using Quality metrics to drive true root cause and long‑term corrective action, and in the identification/institution of perceptive verifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Value
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key process characteristics and ability to implement effective process control techniques.
  • Motivated self‑starter.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
  • CORE, Six Sigma, Shainin Red X, ASQ Certifications.
  • Proficient in use of Pareto analysis, cause/effect diagrams, process mapping.
  • Experienced in Product/Process Failure Modes & Effect Analysis, Regression Analysis, and APQP / AS9100.
  • Knowledge of Measurement System Analysis and Design of Experiments.
  • Ability to facilitate cross‑functional teams in systematic improvement activities (e.g., 6‑sigma, lean manufacturing).
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience interpreting drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and tool control.
  • Understanding of MRP and Shop Floor Management Tools (PRISM (SAP), CMES).
  • Existing U.S. DoD Secret (or higher) clearance.

Position type:
Onsite. Employees work primarily onsite, including all production and maintenance staff essential to product development.

Security clearance:
This position requires eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret clearance. Clearance is obtained through the Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO).
