Role Summary
Paint and Plating Engineer II – located in Andover, MA. This role supports all phases of product design and production for military and defense applications focused on corrosion, paint, plating, and metal finishing.
Responsibilities- Support all phases of product design and production for military and defense applications.
- Design for corrosion prevention and manufacturability, process selection and optimization, supplier capability assessment, failure analysis, and report writing.
- Develop painting procedures for different base materials and surface treatments, establish inspection processes and criteria, train operators and inspectors.
- Serve as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing and quality organizations.
- Audit coating processes and work with suppliers.
- Assist in the development of finishing processes for aluminum, structural carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, and nickel alloys.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in painting, coatings, plating, and surface finishing; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in procedure development and testing, operator/inspector training, fabrication problem solving, and inspection.
- Hands‑on painting experience, either commercial or military hardware.
- Knowledge of military and commercial paint and plating specifications.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and defense specifications into procedural instructions.
- Experience developing finishing processes for aluminum, structural carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, and nickel alloys.
- Knowledge of design of experiments, Six Sigma, and statistical techniques.
- Experience auditing coating processes and working with suppliers.
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Chemical Engineering preferred.
Up to 50% travel (domestic and international) required. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance are required.
Salary & BenefitsSalary range: $68,900 – $131,100 per year. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, parental leave, paid time off, holidays, and incentive compensation programs dependent on level and collective bargaining agreement.
